Seaworthy again....

The mechanics are back!. You will recall that they were supposed to come yesterday, but the control card for the generator hadn't arrived, so the visit was delayed. Sea-Dog negotiated for the mechanics to come today so that we could at least get the starboard raw water pump back in action and commence our post-service sea trials.

So they came today and have now refitted the aforementioned raw water pump. As it turned out, the brass housing broke while they were trying to remove the broken stud screw in the workshop. It really is just as well that this happened dockside and not at sea, as we don't carry a spare housing, though of course we do carry spare impellers. At Captain Bligh's recommendation, the housing screw studs have been reinstalled with a vaseline coating in an attempt to slow the corrosion on the studs and make them easier to get off next time.

We have also had the new Murphy engine gauges fitted and calibrated. This was a bit of a struggle because the gauge leads had to be worked down from the flybridge all the way to the engines. Anyway it was successfully completed, and it will be interesting to see if the port engine still (apparently) runs hotter than the starboard. Another friend has a boat with the same Cummins 6B2 engines and gauges and his port engine always shows a higher gauge temperature as well. Just the gauges??? Hopefully the sea trial will tell. We have Monday pencilled in for us to take Endless Summer out for a run.

And the generator card? Well, that is now due next Wednesday.

Bye for now and happy boating,

Navman
