It's time to follow the whales....

Even the whales have had enough of these cold mornings and are heading north, according to the local paper. Well, they are heading north very early this year, but whether it's due to cold mornings, or lustful thoughts, I couldn't really tell you. All I know is that with just over two weeks to go until our departure date, I'll be glad to be migrating north with them.

Captain Bligh rang this afternoon to inform me ( or boast) that he was up boating in the Great Sandy Straits behind Fraser Island, and that the conditions were perfect, with warm days, balmy nights and good friends all about. Fortunately my envy levels were kept at a reasonable level due to the fact that my good wife (who shall be named SasSea for the purposes of this chronicle) and myself were ourselves enjoying a fine Hunter Chardonnay and watching the sunset, whilst reclining on deck chairs on the beach in front of our house. It was indeed a perfect autumn afternoon on the South Coast, and we came up from the beach feeling very mellow. If only every  afternoon were this warm , we mused, we shouldn't have to go to Port Douglas at all!

But go to Port Douglas we must, for we know that the dark winter approaches, and we want to be long gone before it arrives. Other cruisers are already on their way....Marina rang to tell us of other boats from the river that are ready to go now, though with the excellent cruising speed that Endless Summer has, we shall probably catch them in the southern parts of Queensland, if not before.

Marina and I are meeting tomorrow to go through  the all-important passage menu, the prelude to provisioning the boat. I have a draft menu prepared and tomorrow we shall confirm the provisioning arrangements, with view to getting the non-perishable shopping done next week.

Bye for now & Happy Boating,

Navman
